tarting with the most common oral disease that is developed as a consequence of poor diet and nutrition. In terms of phasic demineralization and remineralization of dental hard tissues, caries disease is a biofilm-mediated, sugar-driven multifactorial process.
Dental caries can be highly encouraged by poor diet in combination with poor oral hygiene. Ingestion of carbohydrates will lead to a rapid drop in the PH of the oral cavity, which will eventually cause the demineralization of the hard tooth structure and tooth damage.
The type, frequency, and amount of carbohydrates affect caries development and progression.
